However weather officials say no major rainfall is expected in the next two months.

Some of the fires in NSW were generating their own thunderstorms, the Rural Fire Service said.

Conditions were expected to improve over the next few days ahead of another period of hot weather expected next week.

"We will not get on top of these fires until we get some decent rain - we have said that for weeks and months," Mr Fitzsimmons said.

The Gospers Mountain mega fire has destroyed about 460,000 hectares (1.14 million acres) north-west of Sydney and fire officials said there was a risk it could merge with the Grose Valley fire in the Blue Mountains.

What travel warnings have been issued?
The states of NSW and South Australia are the focus of the travel warnings.

As of 03:00 (16:00 GMT), 22 roads and highways in NSW were affected by fire, according to a government website.

Roads have been closed in South Australia as well, with residents asked to monitor the government traffic website for updates.

"If members of the public attempt to enter the areas, they will be turned away, regardless of being property owners or business owners, due to specific safety reasons," a police official said.

Criticism grew as a heatwave broke records ¸ÞÁ¾Å°Ã÷³×=¸ÞÁ¾Å°Ã÷³×¿©¼ºÀÇ·ù
across the country and exacerbated mammoth blazes, making the task even harder for exhausted ·¹Çø®Ä«¼îÇθô=À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǼîÇÎ ·¹Çø®Ä«¼îÇθô ·¹Çø®Ä«
firefighters - many of them volunteers.

In a statement, Mr ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«=¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«
Morrison apologised and said he would be "returning to Sydney as soon as can be arranged".

Meanwhile, acting Prime Minister ·¹Çø®Ä«½Ã°è»çÀÌÆ®=·¹Çø®Ä«½Ã°è»çÀÌÆ®
Michael McCormack has acknowledged that further action must be taken to combat climate change but said there was "a lot of hysteria" surrounding the issue.

"Climate change is not the only ·¹Çø®Ä«=·¹Çø®Ä«¼îÇθô ·¹Çø®Ä« ·¹Çø®Ä«½Ã°è
factor that has caused these fires. There has been dry lightning strikes, there has been self-combusting piles of manure, there has been a lot of ¸íÇ°ÈĵåƼ=¸íÇ°ÈĵåƼ
arsonists out there causing fire", he said.

Although climate change is not the direct cause of bushfires, scientists have long warned that a hotter, drier climate would contribute ´ä·Ê¶±=´ä·ÊÇ° ´ä·Ê¶± Çà»ç¶± ±îÄ¡¶±
to Australia's fires becoming more frequent and more intense.

the London Bridge knifeman with a narwhal tusk before pinning him to the ground to help end ½´ÇÁ¸²=½´ÇÁ¸²¿©¼ºÀÇ·ù
the attack.

Darryn Frost, 38, was seen ³²ÀÚ·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®=³²ÀÚ·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®
in pictures confronting Usman Khan, 28, who was armed with two knives.

The civil servant has ·¹Çø®Ä«·¹Çø®Ä«=·¹Çø®Ä«·¹Çø®Ä«
spoken of his "deep hurt" at not being able to save Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones who were killed by Khan on 29 November.

'Knives raised above his head'
Mr Frost added: "He had knives in both ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®=¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®
hands and, upon seeing me with the narwhal tusk, pointed at his midriff.

"He turned and spoke to me, then ·¹Çø®Ä«ÀÏ´ëÀÏ=·¹Çø®Ä«¼îÇÎ ·¹Çø®Ä«Ä¿½ºÅÒ±Þ ·¹Çø®Ä«ÀÏ´ëÀÏ
indicated he had an explosive device around his waist. At this point, the man next to me threw his chair at the attacker, who then started running ³²ÀÚ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«=³²ÀÚ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«
towards him with knives raised above his head."

Mr Frost handed À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǽðè=À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǽðè
the tusk to the man next to him before heading back upstairs to find another one.

When he returned, he found the first tusk "shattered across the floor" and people fleeing the building.

He said: "Along with À̹ÌÅ×À̼ÇÀÏ´ëÀÏ=À̹ÌÅ×À̼ÇÀÏ´ëÀÏ À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǻçÀÔ À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǵµ¸Å
others, I pursued the attacker, tusk in hand, onto the bridge. We called out to warn the public of the danger and, after a struggle, managed to restrain him to the ground.

"At that point I was trying to isolate À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǰ¡¹æ=À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǰ¡¹æ

In the footage of the altercation, Mr Frost ´ä·Ê¶±=´ä·ÊÇ° ´ä·Ê¶± Çà»ç¶± ±îÄ¡¶±
can be seen grappling with Khan on the ground before being pulled away by an officer - seconds before police shot the attacker.

The South African-born Londoner then chased ·¹Çø®Ä«½Å¹ß=·¹Çø®Ä«½Å¹ß
Khan onto the bridge, where footage captured him and fellow members of the public fending off the attacker.

Mr Frost, whose identity was ±¸Âî=±¸Âî¿©¼ºÀÇ·ù
unknown until now, can be seen pinning Khan to the ground before being pulled away by a police officer. The terrorist was shot dead moments later.

Khan was out on licence À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǼîÇÎ=À̹ÌÅ×À̼ǼîÇÎ

Speaking to the PA news ³²ÀÚ·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®=³²ÀÚ·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®
agency, Mr Frost said he was attending the rehabilitation event with colleagues when he heard a commotion downstairs.

He said he then grabbed the ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«=¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«
decorative whale tusk, which had been hanging on a wall: "A few of us rushed to the scene. I took a narwhal tusk from the wall and used it to defend myself and º¸Å×°¡º£³×Ÿ=º¸Å×°¡º£³×Ÿ¿©¼ºÀÇ·ù

"Another man was holding the attacker ´ä·Ê¶±=´ä·ÊÇ° ´ä·Ê¶± Çà»ç¶± ±îÄ¡¶±

at bay with a wooden chair. I ran down the stairs, stood next to the man with the chair, and the two of us confronted the attacker."

Authorities have urged ·¹Çø®Ä«¼îÇθô=·¹Çø®Ä«¼îÇθô

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he must ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®=¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®
change the "energy" at a club he feels have lost their way since he left after retiring as a player in 2016.

Arteta, 37, has signed ¸íÇ°ÀÇ·ù·¹Çø®Ä«=¸íÇ°ÀÇ·ù·¹Çø®Ä«
a three-and-a-half-year contract to succeed Unai Emery, who was sacked in November.

He has served as an ¸ùºí¶û¿©¼ºÁö°©=¸ùºí¶û¿©¼ºÁö°©
assistant coach at Manchester City but has never È«Äá¸íÇ°=È«Äá¸íÇ°
managed.

"I have so much respect ¸íÇ°ÈĵåƼ=¸íÇ°ÈĵåƼ
for this club, if I didn't feel I am ready and prepared for this I wouldn't be sitting in this chair," Arteta told reporters.

"It was always a ³²ÀÚ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®=³²ÀÚ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®
dream for me. The day I made a decision to leave this football club I said to the people that I am going outside, I am going to learn, get prepared and hopefully one day I can come back here when ´ä·Ê¶±=´ä·ÊÇ° ´ä·Ê¶± Çà»ç¶± ±îÄ¡¶±
I feel I am ready.

In the video footage, he ¸íÇ°ÀÇ·ù·¹Çø®Ä«=¸íÇ°ÀÇ·ù·¹Çø®Ä«

Crilly said: "The spray distracted ¿©ÀÚ·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®=¿©ÀÚ·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®
him if you watch the footage. And the guy with the tusk has been able to give him a prod which has unbalanced him."

Mr Frost said he had left out ¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«Ãßõ=¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«Ãßõ
details of the attack out of respect for the victims, their families and the ongoing investigation and inquests.

He appealed for privacy to continue his ³²¼º¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«=³²¼º¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«
recovery and urged the press to use its "amazing ability to connect with people" as a force for good to "unify this country".

"I feel we all have a duty to challenge the spread ´ä·Ê¶±=´ä·ÊÇ° ´ä·Ê¶± Çà»ç¶± ±îÄ¡¶±
of fear, hatred or intolerance within our communities," he added.

A combination of temperatures above 40C, low humidity and strong winds have worsened the struggle for the almost 10,000 ¸íÇ°Æеù·¹Çø®Ä«=¸íÇ°Æеù·¹Çø®Ä«

Why is Morrison facing pressure on climate change?
Many Australians ·¹Çø®Ä«°¡¹æ=·¹Çø®Ä«¿©¼º°¡¹æ ·¹Çø®Ä«³²¼ºÁö°© ·¹Çø®Ä«¿©¼ºÁö°©
have accused Prime Minister Scott Morrison's government ·¹Çø®Ä«Áö°©=·¹Çø®Ä«Áö°©

¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«Ãßõ=¸íÇ°·¹Çø®Ä«Ãßõ
of inaction on climate change.

Last year, the UN »þ³Ú=»þ³Ú¿©¼ºÀÇ·ù
reported that Australia was not on track to meet its commitments under the Paris Agreement - the global deal to ½Å¹ß·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®=½Å¹ß·¹Çø®Ä«»çÀÌÆ®
tackle rising global temperatures.

Mr Morrison has ¿äÁö¾ß¸¶¸ðÅä=¿äÁö¾ß¸¶¸ðÅä¿©¼ºÀÇ·ù
faced criticism for going on holiday despite the severity of the bushfires.

Firefighters' union leader Leighton Drury said ´ä·Ê¶±=´ä·ÊÇ° ´ä·Ê¶± Çà»ç¶± ±îÄ¡¶±
Australia was "seeing an absolute lack of leadership from this government and it is a disgrace".
